INSA Senior Scientist Scheme |
The Academy had instituted the INSA Senior Scientist Scheme since 1985 to utilize appropriately the services of the active superannuated Fellows of the Academy involved in high quality research in their specialised disciplines in some recognised institutions/universities in India.

| Name of the Scheme and the Awardee: |
The Scheme shall be called INSA Senior Scientist Scheme' and the Awardee shall be called INSA Senior Scientist'. |
| Objectives: |
The objective of the scheme is to utilise the expertise of INSA Fellows after superannuation primarily for research work in some R&D center/university/institute in India.

| Eligibility & Age: |
| Superannuated Fellows within the age 68 years are eligible for consideration. |
| Number of Positions: |
The number of INSA Senior Scientists to be selected each year shall be decided by the Council from the panel recommended by the Committee. Usually the number of Senior Scientists to be selected in each year will be based on the availability of vacancies and funds available with the Academy. The maximum number at any given time shall not exceed 50. |
| Tenure: |
The term of a INSA Senior Scientist position will be tenable initially for a period of three years, extendable for another two years after a review of the achievement of three years' work. It will be tenable upto 70 years of age. |
| Value: |
The grant consist of Honorarium @ Rs.10,000/- per month and Contingency @ Rs. 25,000/- per annum for meeting expenses on stationery, travel (within the country only). This also covers expenditure upto Rs. 10,000/- on communication needs. The honorarium is taxable which will be deducted at source.

| Nominations: |
The INSA Senior Scientist can approach other grant giving agencies for sanction of a research scheme for the research assistant/ fellowship and other additional requirement of grants.
Nominations for the position shall be invited from the Fellows of the Academy in the first week of May preceeding the year of the award.
The nomination papers duly completed in all respects, signed, and routed through the Head of the Institution, where a scientist intends to work, should be sent to the Executive Secretary, INSA so as to reach latest by 15th June.

| Mode of Selection: |
The nominations received within the valid period shall be examined by the Committee constituted for the purpose. The recommendations of the Committee shall be considered and selection be made by the Council at its meeting to be held in August. |
| Announcement: |
The names of scientists selected for the positions of INSA Senior Scientists shall be announced at the Annual General Meeting of the Academy to be held in October.
The award of the INSA Senior Scientist position would be valid from 1st January to 31st December of the year of Award. Otherwise, the selected scientist has to apply afresh for consideration of the Academy for future position. |
| Operation of Scheme: |
| Funds are under direct control of the sponsoring institution. |
| Leave Rules: |
| 60 days in a year with honorarium whether in India or abroad. |
| Activities Report and Renewal of Scheme: |
| Senior Scientist will submit an Annual Report of his/her research work in the prescribed format at the end of each Calendar year alongwith statement of expenditure for renewal and release of grant for the next year. |
| Final Technical Report: |
Senior Scientist is required to submit a consolidated technical report for the entire duration of the award at the end of tenure in the prescribed proforma. |
| Interaction with other Agencies: |
Senior Scientist is allowed to take up the sponsored Research and Consultancy within the norms of the host institute. |
| Obligations: |

Host Institute shall submit the audited statement of accounts and utilisation certificate from time to time to INSA. |

The Scheme will stand terminated from the date the Senior Scientist of INSA accepts any paid position elsewhere. |

Acknowledgement of support in all publication as 'Senior Scientist, INSA" should be made.

Final adjustment/settlement of accounts should be done within a period of 30 days of termination of Scheme |

All patents, rights, designs and inventions derived from the research work of the Senior Scientist shall be governed by the host institutional norms. |

At the completion of the period of the INSA Senior Scientist, the awardee shall handover all permanent equipments purchased through the contingency funds to the institution where the work was undertaken. |

These regulations may be revised or amended by the Council at any time. |
